Is the Pope allowed to get involved with politics?

Yes the Pope is allowed to get involved in politics. The concept of separation of Church and State is relatively new. The Pope is the representative of Christ on earth and most kings in Europe agreed that they were apart of Christendom or Christ's kingdom, chosen by God to reign over their political spheres. Thus since they are under God, and the Pope is Christ's representative, it is logical that they should submit themselves to Christ, or his representative, the Pope. During the Reformation the view changed that the Pope was the representative of Christ, especially with the return to the Bible which nowhere mentions that the Pope is an infallible representative of Christ on earth and that we are all able to speak and talk to God ourselves without priests even. The Pope thus deprived of power left the Kings free to claim their appointment as divine rulers to be separate and independent of the Pope's intervention.
