Can I buy an old AP study guide from a few years ago?

I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm taking the AP World Civ exam soon and I was wondering if it is ok to buy a book for the AP test published a few years ago. Do the AP tests change over years, in terms of like formatting or subjects?
