How do I get Civilization 4 to work on Windows 7?

I have continually tried to install Civ 4 on my new laptop. I know that the system requirements only go to XP. I was wondering if anyone has gotten Civ 4 to work on Windows 7. I've tried to install with being the administrator and also with the compatibility tab but when it asks for disc 2 it freezes and has an error message that says catostrophic failure. Any suggestions?
